HIGH RELIABILITY PRODUCT ENGINEERING

Radial Space offers high rel product engineering to help take your space hardware idea and turn it into a space product.  Reach out to Radial Space if you need help turning your ideas into hardware products.

Here are some areas that Radial Space supports:

  1. Detailed mechanical packaging design.  Including fabrication drawings and 3d models.

  2. PCB layout support.  From library development using NASA footprint guidelines to layout through to Gerbers.

  3. Finite element thermal analysis that includes PCB level modeling up to top assembly module.

  4. Finite element dynamics simulations for structural analysis.  3 axis vibe modeling capability.

  5. Manufacturing support including soldering, polymerics, and fabrication of your prototype through to flight units.

  6. Structural, thermal and electrical test support.  Tailored specifically to establishing modeled vs. measured correlation and product performance.

Some examples of capabilities are shown below.

Electronic Packaging Design:

Electronic packaging design requires an understanding of how the hardware comes together in assembly.  Assembly tool access, ease of machining, and structural & thermal interaction all need to be taken into account during the initial design phase of a product.

Some examples of our work in high reliability electronic packaging design are as follows:

  1. Successfully supported more than 10 unique thermal & structural FEM analysis deliverables for a customer building a deep space satellite.

  2. Development of prototype modules for a NASA Mars UHF communications module.  Included thermal & structural analyses, and PCB design.

  3. PCB library, PCB layout, schematic capture, and mechanical packaging design of VPX RF slices for an X-band space radar.

  4. Support of customer's effort to develop their first digital radar backend module space product.  Deliverables included mechanical 3d models with fab drawings, thermal & structural analyses, and assembly support of initial flight units.

Product Turnkey Fabrication:

Radial Space can help you get through the fabrication process of your hardware.

We support you with turnkey fabrication via the following critical steps in the process:

  1. PCB fabrication support from layout, to fabrication, to assembly.  Radial Space has experience that includes standard rigid PCBs and carrier backed PCB fabrication.

  2. Machine shop selection and interaction through fabrication.

  3. Plating selection and requirements.

  4. Design approach that helps expedite the machining process.

  5. Assembly of PCBs, top assembly interconnect, wire bonding, and die attach.

Product Testing:

In addition to analysis capabilites, Radial space offers testing capability.  The testing is meant to understand your product performance and establish correlation between modeled and measured results.

Here are some examples of work performed at Radial Space.

  1. In-house vibration testing of 1/2 U RF module in support of qualification testing to GEVS flight levels.  Structural analysis also provided.

  2. Thermal correlation study between in-house tested hardware and thermal model analysis results for LEO RF module.

  3. Thermal ambient testing of various modules designed in-house for NASA projects.
